Mickey and Minnie Mouse Call It Quits After 95 Years of Magic
Mickey and Minerva (Minnie) Mouse will continue public appearances at Disneyland through peak tourist season while navigating through the end of an almost century-long fairytale.
ANAHEIM, Calif., March 26, 2025 – The beloved Disney duo is parting ways, but not from their fans. Mickey and Minnie Mouse are asking for privacy as they end their decades-long romance while promising to continue sharing the magic throughout the summer.
“Golly, this isn’t easy for either of us,” said Mickey. “Minnie and I have shared so many memories, from our first steamboat ride to magical nights under the fireworks. After a lot of heart-to-heart talks, we’ve decided it’s time to take different paths. We’re still the best of friends—she’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
“Our love was real, and so was the mutual respect we still share,” Minnie described. “I’ll always cherish our time together. We just ask for a little privacy, even in the happiest place on Earth. Thank you for understanding.”
Mickey and Minnie are now part of a broader trend of reinventing legacy characters at Disney, evolving alongside other longstanding figures. As audiences evolve, even the most time-honored duos are adapting. This approach to reimagining franchises is not new; for example, the sympathetic portrayal of Maleficent's backstory in the live-action film, the modern retelling of Ariel, and the upcoming "Snow White" live-action adaptation, which does not include a prince, all provide fresh interpretations of these classic stories.
“Mickey and Minnie have been the heart of Disneyland for nearly a century,” said Thomas Mazloum, the head of Disneyland Resort. “While their relationship is evolving, their dedication to bringing joy to our guests hasn’t changed. They'll continue appearing at parades, meet-and-greets and photo ops through the summer season. We’re proud to support them as they navigate this transition, and we stand by their request for space during this time.”
